With much anticipation, the Kern County Wool Growers Association will hold its 85th Annual Sheepmen's Picnic on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Kern County Basque Club,
2301 South Union Avenue, Bakersfield, California. A delicious American lamb barbecue will be served from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Tickets at the door.
Join in the fun and enter our Sheepherder Bread Baking Contest held during the annual Sheepmen's Picnic. The bread entries have been fantastic, and the excitement continues to grow each year. This contest is for amateur bakers using a cast iron Dutch oven. Breads must be baked with the lid as that is what makes it an "oven." Please deliver your entry to the Auxiliary's table by 1 p.m. the day of the contest. It's always so exciting to see everyone's bread!
Contestants placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will be awarded prizes. New prizes are selected every year. You may enter more than one bread; however, you may win only one prize.
Since this is one of our big fundraisers for the year, each bread will be auctioned off immediately following the judging of the breads. If you don't bake bread, being a buyer is another way to help support our Bo-Peeps.
It will be a fun day, and we thank you for your participation and support.
